MEAT AND YOGURT DINNER

(MIDDLE EASTERN)

2 c. plain yogurt                                      
1 clove of garlic
¼ tsp. salt
1 lb. lean ground beef     
1 med. onion
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. pepper
6 pieces pita bread

Smash the garlic clove and add it, and the salt to the yogurt.

Chop onion into small pieces.  Brown the onion and meat in a skillet.  Add cinnamon and pepper to taste.  Cook until browned and very well done. (Can substitute ground lamb for beef.)

Separate pita bread and tear into pieces, about 2” square.  Spread out, overlapping pieces on a dinner plate.  Spoon yogurt onto bread and spread around.  Spoon the meat over top of the yogurt.  Eat with your fingers by picking up pieces of bread, cradling the yogurt and meat.  It’s messy, but worth it.
